Things to know about PEMF

“PEMF is a benefit for Mankind from infant to the geriatric.

PEMF will lead to a change in the paradigm of medicine.”
Dr. Linus Pauling – Double Nobel Prize Winner

Good human and animal care include vitamins, exercise, and good nutrition. These habits provide for a healthy immune system and help avoid getting sick. Even though we live in an industrial affluent country, our pets, and equine athletes, just as we do, suffer from energy loss due to stress and environmental pollution. Together with insufficient exercise or stress from performance and diet complications, depletes energetic balance.

Cells no longer function correctly. This situation leads to poor circulation, declining performance, premature aging, and degenerative diseases. To potentially reclaim the body’s natural state of health; cell function needs to be restored. Routine use of Magna Wave pulsed magnetic energy is said to improve the bodies ability to repair cells and recover from illnesses.

Frequently Asked Questions About PEMF Therapy

What happens during a PEMF treatment?
The PEMF device sends a pulsing magnetic field through a soft, flexible rubber coil or padded attachment up to 16 inches deep into the body. As the pulsing magnetic field pulses on, the cell membrane is gently pulled by the magnetic field. On the off phase of the pulse, the cell membrane is relaxed. As the cells expand and relax, the cell membrane becomes more permeable, allowing the cell to release waste, toxins and inflammation and receive oxygen and nutrients. This receiving of oxygen and releasing of waste is what increases the natural charge of the cell. As the cell reaches it's natural charge, the message of pain to the brain is reduced and the cells return to optimal health. This cellular exercise is what is profoundly beneficial and unique to PEMF. Because the magnetic wave effects only the cells that have a low level of charge, the damaged cells are the only ones that show pulsing or twitching. Because of this , the PEMF is very effective in detecting the location of the damaged cells (areas of soreness).

How long does a treatment take?
Treatment times are faster with PULSE Centers PEMF Systems than any other systems on the market because of our unique because of our revolutionary human and animal attachments like the  X-Large double loops which create 2 separate pulsing magnetic fields and the ability to treat the legs and the body at the same time!
Normal treatment time is 45-60 minutes for equines, 30-60 minutes for humans and small animals depending on how many areas are sore and how chronic the soreness or injury is.

How is a PEMF Therapy Treatment performed?
Using a soft, flexible rubber "loops" the PEMF device is gently placed over the body. This coil sends a wide, magnetic field up to 16 inches deep into the body to the cellular level. As the coil is placed on or over the body, the magnetic pulses are adjusted to a very comfortable level. It is safe, non-invasive and no medication or sedation is required. Horses, humans and small animals LOVE PEMF therapy!
People and animals find the treatment very relaxing as the pulsing relieves pain and releases inflammation within minutes of treatment and often refer to it as being as relaxing as a "Spa Treatment" or Massage.

Can PEMF treatments be done right at the SHOW or Event?
Absolutely! A horse can be worked immediately after a treatment. PEMF helps horses to loosen up and relax at a show, relieves their pain & stiffness and helps them recover faster. We recommend at least 3 treatments.
We do PEMF treatments on our horses every day at H/J shows and they come out of their stalls "Fresh as a Daisy" each morning!
For Eventers, it is great to do a treatment before Dressage, after XC and after Showjumping.

When will the results of the treatment be seen or felt?
Results such as reduction in pain, increased range of motion are usually immediate. Some riders have noticed a difference within the first couple steps their horse takes after their first treatment. For humans, some people notice immediate changes while others see significant improvements the next day. The sleep achieved after a session is usually much deeper and more restful. Some chronic issues may take more treatments for noticeable results but there is always some positive effect from a treatment. As the blood is oxygenated and circulation is increased, improvement will continue to improve for up to 72 hours after a whole body treatment.

How long will the results last?
Results can last any where from a day to weeks or permanently, depending on the problem and its severity. Many soreness's can be relieved with 1 to 3 treatments. Humans usually need more than 3 sessions to alleviate issues such as Sciatica pain or Diabetic Neuropathy.  For most performance horses at a show, great benefits of increase range of motion and improved performance are achieved with 3 treatments. More chronic soreness or injuries take longer but the general rule of thumb is that an injury like a torn suspensory can be healed in about half the normal time it would take without PEMF treatment. Many issues that the body suffers with didn't develop over night and unfortunately, won't be resolved overnight in a single session either. PEMF is not magic, but it is scientifically PROVEN to work!

How does a PEMF Device detect and show areas of sensitivity?
Muscle tissue pulses or twitches in sore or damaged areas because of Cellular membrane movement.

Why treat the whole body when the problem is in one area?
PEMF creates a systemic response like "Fine-tuning" or "Turbo-Charging" the WHOLE body, because of this, many issues, not just the targeted ones, also experience improvement. By increasing the blood oxygen in the whole body, the sensitive area continues to be helped as super oxygenated blood from the rest of the body continues to flow through the area, for up to 72 hours.

Is the treatment the same as magnetic blankets and boots?
While the therapy is similar, the difference is in the delivery method and the ability to focus the right level of power to the specific area that needs it. While the blankets or mats provide a low, uniform level of power, it may not be adequate for deeper injuries or in denser parts of the body. The power of PEMF is measured in Gauss, like distance is measured in Feet. The cells need at least 25 Gauss in order to effect cellular repair, while it is believed that 50 to 85 Gauss is considered an optimal level. As the Magnetic field travels away from the blanket or treatment loop, through denser tissue such as bone, the power diminishes. So, it is important to be able to deliver the right level of power to the damaged areas. The main areas of difference are as follows:

  1. PULSE Centers PEMF Systems give the ability to detect where the body is sore and treat that specific area.

  2. Our PULSE Centers PEMF systems are easily adjustable, high-powered devices. This ability to adjust the intensity provides the optimal level of power needed to a specific area and receive immediate results.

  3. Our PULSE Centers PEMF systems can provide the optimal level of power to a very specific point ANYWHERE on the body. This is particularly useful in treating horse when treating areas like;  the poll and jaw, the psoas muscles hamstrings, stifle, necks, legs, abscess in hoofs and specific acupressure points for a wide variety of issues such as colic and calming points.

Pulse Centers PEMF Therapy vs. Shockwave?
As explained above in "what happens when treating a horse..", the cellular exercise that rehabilitates cells is unique to PEMF. The following are the main points of differentiation:

  1. PEMF has the ability to detect where a horse is sore or injured. Shockwave has no ability to detect soreness.

  2. PEMF can be used anywhere on the whole body. Shockwave can only be done on a very specific point on certain areas of the body.

  3. PEMF is  Non-invasive, gentle and painless. NO sedation is required, while horses quickly relax and enjoy the treatment. Shockwave is invasive and painful as it creates energy by the concussion and sound waves.

  4. PEMF does not "Mask Pain". Shockwave can increase healing but it has a side effect that can prove useful for those looking to skip the healing process: shockwave treatments can act as on-site analgesia in the area where energy waves are targeted. Scientists don't know for certain how long that pain relief lasts, but it's generally thought to be about 48 to 72 hours. That may make the therapy an attractive band-aid for cheaters. “Part of the concern is we've got regulations addressing its use,” said Dr. Mary Scollay, equine medical director of the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission.
Scollay estimates that the analgesia is strong enough to successfully mask certain types of fractures in the cannon bones for the first two to three days after treatment. RMTC guidelines suggest trainers be required to report the use of shockwave on a horse to racing officials, who should put the horse on the veterinarian's list for ten days after treatment. There is no need to report the use of PEMF and a horse can be raced or ridden right after a treatment with no ill effects.

  5. PEMF does not require sedation and has no potential for damage calls. Shockwave usually requires sedation.  Because of the damaging potential and required sedation, the treatment must be performed by a Veterinarian.

  6. Pulse Centers machines have a wide focal area. Shockwave has a small focal area of a couple of inches wide at the skin that goes down to a point at it's deepest penetration.

  7. Our PEMF units magnetic field can travel up to 16 inches into the body. Shockwave has a maximum penetration of about 4 inches.

 PEMF vs. Laser Treatments?
While both the laser and PEMF units deliver increased energy to areas of need, the following are the main points of differentiation:

  1. PEMF have the ability to detect where a horse is sore or injured because only the sore areas will twitch or pulse. Laser has no ability to detect soreness, just treatment of a specific point.

  2. PEMF units have a wide focal area and the wave area does not diminish as it penetrates the body. Laser has a very small focal area of less than in inch.

  3. PEMF units magnetic wave can travel up to 16 inches into the body. Laser has a limited penetration of less than 2 inches, unless the power is increased, which increases the potential to damage the cells at the surface.

  4. PEMF units can be used on the whole body and takes 45 to 60 minutes for a full body treatment. Since Laser has such a small focal point, it takes a long time to treat a larger area making full body treatments not likely.
